Sports Funding

The legacy of the the London Olympics 2012 saw the introduction of the Primary School PE and Sports Funding which is focused on improving provision of PE within primary schools.

This year our sporting competitions will be held within the Ripon City Cluster. This enables our children to compete for the school in a range of competitions at different levels of ability in the local area.  We believe this is fundamental to developing children's team work and ability to perform in competitive sport.

Previous Year's PE & Sports Funding:

Teaching and Learning

In 2013/14 children and teachers benefited from the support of two specialist PE teachers.  All classes were taught Gymnastics by a fully qualified coach.  children in years 5 and 6 were also received teaching from a secondary school teacher and Olympic athlete.

In 2014/15 PE lessons for children across the school are being supported by 6th Form students from the Outwood Academy in Ripon, who are themselves learning about coaching techniques.

At Moorside Junior School, we strive to provide high quality PE sessions and use the Val Sabin PE scheme of work to ensure there is consistency and progression of skills, learning and assessment.

In 2015/16 PE lessons are been supported by trained PE specialists from Sporting Influence.  In the Autumn term, children in years 3 and 4 have received football lessons and held a mini tournament.  In the Spring term children in years 5 and 6 will receive dance lessons and a dance club and in the Summer term there will be additional tennis coaching.

 Funding

The allocation of Sports Funding is matched to the development of the needs of the school.  In 2013/14 the school identified teaching development and new equipment as the two areas for improvement.  In 2014/15 the school had directed more funding to increase opportunities for children to take part in training and competitions.
